Norval Gene Vornold of Willow Springs, unexpectedly passed away early Tuesday,
August 1, 2017, while at Willow Care Nursing Home due to natural causes. Born on June 3, 1933 to Erval Norman and Martha Pamiela (Lewis) Vornold in Dalton, MO; he was 84 years old.
Gene grew up and attended school in the Palmyra and Kansas City area. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the signal corps from 1953 to 1955. Gene was employed for 41 years by Verizon Telephone Co., where he served in many different capacities which included installation, climbing poles, and was later the Office Manager in Mtn. Grove, Willow Springs, and West Plains. He was married to Nancy Lock on May 6th, 1972 at the Presbyterian Church in West Plains. He loved to hunt, and had many happy times fishing with his buddy, Otis Petrus, but his passion was for the game of golf. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Rob Gooch and his wife, Kim, Nixa, MO; and Tony Morris of Springfield, MO; daughters, Nescha Dixon and her husband, Larry of Hannibal, MO; and Karla Nelson. Further surviving are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family asks that donations or memorials be made in Gene's memory to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or Wounded Warriors and may be left at the funeral home.
A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 10 AM at the Willow Springs City Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be may be left at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com
