Michael “Mike” Dean McCallister, of Willow Springs, Missouri was born November 2, 1957 in Kansas City Missouri to Roy Dean and Claudene (George) McCallister and departed this life on February 17, 2018 at the age of 60 years and 3 months, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mike was united in marriage to Janis Carlene Myers on October 21, 1987 and they made their home in Willow Springs, Missouri.
Mike grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, living there until the age of 12, when the family moved to Springfield, Missouri. Mike attended the Willard School system and graduated from Willard High School in 1975.
From a young age, Mike enjoyed playing the guitar and was influenced by the stylings of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed. He enjoyed a music career during the late 1970s and 1980s. He was lead guitarist in several bands throughout the Springfield, Nixa, Branson, and Eureka Springs, Arkansas areas and ultimately became the lead guitarist at the Foggy River Boys Music Show in Branson, Missouri, where he performed for nine seasons. In 1987, Mike changed careers and became a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Communications Division. He enjoyed working in electronics repair and was able to put his skills to good use during his 25 year career with the Patrol. Following his retirement in 2012, Mike enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including gardening, automotive and small engine maintenance and repair, appliance and especially electronics repair.
Survivors include his wife, Janis McCallister of the home; his parents, Roy Dean and Claudene (George) McCallister of Springfield, Missouri; two aunts, Mary Alice (George) Wright of Springfield, Missouri and Rosa Lea (McCallister) Walls and her husband, Earl, of Summersville, Missouri; and several cousins and the members of his “Patrol family”.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Yarber Mortuary, Willow Springs, Missouri, following a visitation at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery, Pomona, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to Cancer Treatment Center, ? Shaw Medical Building, 1111 Kentucky Ave., West Plains, MO 65775.
