Roy Dale Ayers, of Pomona, quietly left this life Sunday morning, August 27, 2017, while at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Born on January 22, 1938 in Winter Park, Florida to Marion F. and Luella M. (Stockwell) Ayers; he was 79 years old.
Roy was raised in Willow Springs where he attended Willow Springs High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army, active duty from 1961 until 1963, and reserve duty until 1967. In 1968, he began his career working for United Telephone System-Midwest Group as Engineer. He was named Special Services Engineer in 1970 and Transmission and Protection Engineer in 1974. He had many remarkable accomplishments throughout his career, including engineering systems for TWA that enabled them to achieve nearly instantaneous worldwide communications. Upon his retirement from Sprint, he moved back to Willow Springs to spend time with family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marion Dwight Ayers, and one sister, Charlene Glenda (Ayers) Clinton.
He is survived by one sister, Sharon Mae (Ayers) White and husband, Ron White of Willow Springs. He is further survived by two nieces, Tonya Clinton-Hutchens of Independence, MO and Rhonda (White) Hulland of Camdenton, MO; two nephews, Darren Clinton of Independence, MO and Mike White of Willow Springs, MO. Also, one great niece and four great nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews further survive.
A visitation for Mr. Ayers will be held Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Willow Funeral Home with the funeral service immediately following. Interment will be at Howell Memorial Park in Pomona with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
