Friday, May 7, 1948:
James Calvin Roberts, well known farmer and veteran of World War I died suddenly at his home in Denton Monday, May 3, 1948 about 9 o'clock. He was 52 and had lived in this community 32 years.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Assembly of God Church in Denton, with Rev. Richard Pickney in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were members of the American Legion Post No. 88. Burial was made at Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Undertaking Co. in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dottie Mae Roberts, Denton, two sons, James Marvin Roberts, Denton; Oscar Amos Roberts, Manila, Ark.; step-mother, Mrs. Mary E. Roberts, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three brothers, John and Lewis Roberts, California, Richard Roberts, Somerville, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Lancaster, Somerville, Tenn., and Mrs. Virgie Ellis of St. Louis.
