Ray Gentry, Jr., of Route 1, Bragg City, was killed when struck by an automobile on Route C three miles south of Deering. The fatal accident happened at approximately 6:20 p.m. September 13, 1963.
The State Highway Patrol said the child was hit by a 1963 Ford Sedan driven north by Don Arlin Poindexter, age 25, of Steele, who told troopers he saw another car stop to let out some children and that the Gentry boy ran from behind a parked car into the path of his automobile.
Services for Ray Gentry, Jr., were held September 16 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in the Oakville Community. Re. Frank Payne officiated. Burial was in the Mount Zion cemetery.
Born December 23, 1956, he was seven years, nine months and 20 days old.
He leaves his mother, Mrs. Hattie Gentry of Bragg City; five brothers and sisters, seven half brothers and sisters; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Wellington of Steele, and Mrs. Mizie Gentry of Dennis, Miss.
The John W. German Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
