Mr. Chester L. Steele, 70, Highlandville, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Elfindale Manor, Springfield, with family at his side. He was born July 5, 1938 in Hurley, Missouri, the son of Finis and Logie Steele (Teague). Chester graduated from Crane High School in 1956 with numerous basketball records. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, he worked many jobs in the construction industry. Most memorable, a heavy equipment operator on the Alaska Pipeline. Chester was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; his father, Finis; a son, Matthew; and most recently, his loving mother, Logie A. Teague. Those who survive him are a sister, Sharon, and her husband Rod Cannedy, Clever; a son, Mark Steele and his wife Nancy; a grandson, Tyler Steele; granddaughters, Amber and Britney Steele; great grandson, Noah Lee Steele, all of Springfield; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. His greatest enjoyment was his family and he will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Burial will be in Short Cemetery, Hurley, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the or the online condolences may be made at www.meadorsfuneralhome.com
