Alex may have been born as John Alexander, but never used his first name. He was born in either TN or SC to Raleigh "Rholla" Hood and Ann(a) McKinney. He married on Sep 23, 1855 in Benton Co, AR to Rachel Graves. According to the census, they had 14 children (twelve have been identified). Alex served in Co. H, 7th Cavalry (or Infantry) of the Enrolled Missouri Militia. This unit was later reorganized as the 15th MO Cavalry. Alex died at the age of 49 at his home near Hurley in Stone Co, MO.
Rachel was born in NC to Leonard Graves and Sally Luther. She married on Sept 23, 1855 in Benton Co, AR to Alexander Hood. On the 1900 census, it is stated that Rachel had 14 children; 12 have been identified at this time. She became bedridden the last years of her life and died at the age of 72 in Stone Co.
