Funeral services were held at the Holland Baptist Church Sunday for Harley Jackson Barnes who passed away at his home near Holland Friday night. The pastor, Rev. Ray Crews, officiated and interment was in the Number Eight Cemetery. German Funeral Home of Steele was in charge and grandsons were pallbearers.
Mr. Barnes was born at Hamilton, Ala., in 1887, and moved to this vicinity 33 years ago. He was a retired farmer and died at the age of 70 years. He had been in bad health for some time.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Josephine Barnes, Steele; two sons, Marvin Barnes, St. Louis, and Jimmy Barnes, Steele; five daughters, Mrs. Destie Paris, Osceola, Mrs. Chester Hitchcock, Rives, Mrs. Mary Collins, Cooter, Mrs. Vera Brinkley and Mrs. Frances Canada, both of Blytheville, 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, five brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Josephine Barnes, former Holland-Cooter resident, died August 2, 1964 at Dunklin County Memorial Hospital at Kennett. She was 78.
She was a resident of Hornersville at the time of her death, but had lived in the Holland-Cooter area for 44 years.
Services were held August 3, at 2 p.m. at Holland Church of Christ. Burial was in Number Eight Cemetery with German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
She leaves two sons, Marvin Barnes, St. Louis, and Jimmy Barnes, Hornersville; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Long, Hamilton, Ohio, Mrs. Robin Canada, Blytheville; three step-daughters, Mrs. George Parish, Osceola, Mrs. Chester Hitchcock, Rives, Mo., Mrs. Mary Collins, Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Blanch Oliver, Shannon, Miss.; four brothers, Bert Frederick, Shannon, Miss., Elmer Frederick, Zion, Ill., Aden Frederick, Baxter, Ala., Ruff Frederick, Smithville, Miss.; three half-brothers, Wilburn Frederick, Pontotoc, Miss., Tilton Frederick, Thomas Frederick, both of Memphis, and 20 grandchildren.
