Curtis Freeze Instantly Killed
Belt Flies from Wheel Strikes Young Man on Side of Head and Breaks His Neck - Curtis Freeze, brother of F. A. Freeze, a prominent teacher of this county and Emmett Freeze of the city, was accidentally killed while operating a wood saw near Ridgley Tuesday afternoon about 3 o’clock. Curtis and family lived in McDonald County near Simcoe. He had come over after a wood saw and was sawing for farmers along the way back home. At the time of the accident he was sawing wood for Joe Stamps near Ridgley. The saw was running and the work going along well, apparently, when the belt used on the rig flew off and struck Curtis on the side of the head with such force as to kill him. He died almost instantly, living only a few moments after being struck. He was 22 years old and leaves a young wife and three small children, the youngest being only a few weeks old. He was a nephew of John, Sam and W. E. Hankins. The death is a very sad one indeed and he has brought deepest grief to his family and friends in this and in McDonald County. The Curtis Freeze Funeral was held at the Antioch Baptist Church, Wednesday afternoon of last week, conducted by Rev. Chas. Vanzandt. Rev. Ed Chappell also made a short talk. Curtis was a consistent church member and held in the highest esteem by the whole community in which he had spent nearly all his life. A large crowd attended the funeral.
