Barbara Jean Shelton was born March 25, 1947 in Ripley County, MO to Aron Shelton and Mattie Butts Shelton. At the Age of 70 years and 4 months, Barbara left the cares and limitations of this world behind on August 6, 2017, and ran into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Barbara attended Cabool schools and later worked hard at different area cafes and farms before her accident in 1968. She retired from Ozark Sheltered Workshop in Houston, MO where she worked for 17 years. She believed the workshop couldn't open unless she was there, and actually went 11 years without missing a single day.
Barbara loved going places, especially to church or out to eat for a good cheeseburger. She also had many likes, but the top things she loved to do was to play bingo or dominoes and to watch a good western movie.
Barbara asked Jesus into her heart as a young girl in Doniphan, MO and made the decision to rededicate her life in 2007 and was baptized shortly after. Her favorite song was Amazing Grace and she understood what that sweet Amazing Grace was. Most Sundays she would request her Pastor Donnie and his wife Angel to sing it for her. Each night she loved having Sara Swisloski sing it as she was helping her get ready for bed at the Kabul Nursing Home.
Barbara loved her family very much and enjoyed the time she was able to spend with them. She had such a big heart and spent all year collecting quarters she found or was able to talk her sister Kathy into handing over so that she could buy a present for everyone she spent Christmas with, and so that she could take her sister Kathy out to eat each year for her birthday.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, James Boothe Jr.; her daughter, Betty Jo (Yates) Meyer; parents, Aron and Mattie Shelton; brothers, Clarence Cook, Arran Cook, Marion Shelton, Hershel Shelton, Tommy Shelton, Junior Shelton, David Shelton and James Shelton.
She is survived by two sisters, Oma Lou Shelton of Ava, MO and Kathy (Shelton) Wells and husband, Don Wells of Cabool, MO; two grandchildren, Jamora Crewse (husband Jeremy) of Mtn. Grove, MO and Joel Wells (wife Amanda) of Beaumont, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Mala, Allison, Emma, Hunter, Lyla, Rowdy, and Isaac. Donnie and Angel Wells and girls, Pennie and Justin Whetstine and girls, Cheri and AJ Manning and children, Diane and Randy Garner and boys along with many other nephews and nieces and her Trinity Free Will Baptist church family.
Barbara had a determined mind and a strong will for life. Her family and friends will cherish fond memories of her until they meet again in Heaven. [egcfuneralhome.com]
