Lewis married Anna Waneta Nihiser on September 4, 1934, at Kirksville, Missouri. They had two children: Leta Marlene and Gary Roger. Lou and Waneta were divorced in 1948 and he never remarried.

LEWIS D. KNOTTS, LA PLATA, DIES AFTER FALL
Lewis Dale Knotts, 60 of La Plata, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday after falling downstairs from the building in which he roomed.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Christie Funeral Chapel in La Plata with the Rev. Clare Nelson, pastor of the La Plata Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery at Gibbs.
Bearers will be Leslie Ross, John McKie, Herb Moncrief, Eddie Gupton, Oren Russell and Amos Thompson. The casket will be closed at the funeral hour and will not be reopened.
Mr. Knotts, the son of the late John R. and Jessie (Pim) Knotts was born near Kirksville Oct. 18, 1904. He is survived by one son, Gary Knotts, Wentzville; Mrs. one daughter, Marlene Knotts, Honolulu, Hawaii; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Stotts, Atlanta; Mrs. Sue Sykes, Ewing; and Mrs. Maryann McBride, Missoula, Mont.' and two grandchildren, Debra Knotts and Gary Knotts Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
He was a farmer in Adair County until he moved to La Plata in 1951. Mr. Knotts was a member of the Methodist church in Gibbs.
