Henry Clay Evans, 84, of Cooter died Jan. 24, 1991 at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis. Born Oct. 5, 1906 in Lexington, Tenn., he was the son of Frank and Donie Anderson Evans. He was a farmer in the Number Eight Community for 47 years. He was a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elva Lofton Evans of Cooter; Two daughters, Patricia Morrow of Little Rock and Marilyn Findley of Sherrill, N.Y.; four sisters, Myrtle and Tommie Evans and Ramel Lawler, all of the Number Eight Community, and Eunice Jenkins of Bertrand, Mo.; Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Elmer Evans and two sisters, Verna Wilkins and Geraldine Evans.
Services were Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. at Holly Grove Baptist Church, the Rev. Steve Williams officiating, with burial in Number Eight Cemetery, Bradshaw German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Elva Lofton Evans, 90, of Cooter, died March 10, 1993 at her home. Born Feb. 7, 1903, she was the daughter of Joseph and Norah Lofton. She was a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church and the Number Eight Club. She lived her early years in the Clear Lake Community with Mary and Lee Woodard. She was a homemaker and also wrote the Number Eight News for The Steele Enterprise for 30 years. She was the widow of Henry Evans.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Morrow of Little Rock and Marilyn Findley of Sherrill, N.Y.; Four brothers, F.M. Woodard of Carthage, Mo., Charles Woodard of Orange, Calif., Carlos Woodard of Kennett and Snowball Woodard of Kennett; Two sisters, Goldie Hicks of Orange, Calif., and Pauline Gillespie of Long Beach, Calif.; Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Services were March 13, at 2 p.m. at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter, the Rev. im Abanathy and the Rev. Stephen Williams officiating, with burial in Mitchell Number Eight Cemetery, Bradshaw's German-Aumon Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Pallbearers were Carlos and Snowball Woodard, Jack Ratliff, J.W. Vanderburg, Jimmy Johnson and Leroy Evans.
