Robert Winsor, age 90, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014, at Life Care Center, Carrollton, Missouri.
Robert was born the son of George and Verno (Daggy) Winsor on December 5, 1924, in Olney, Illinois. He attended school at Olney until 7th grade. With his parents’ permission he enlisted in the army on December 31, 1942 and went into active service. The battles and companies he fought in were Aleutians, East Mandates, Southern Philippines, and Ruckus. His medals and decorations include Philippine Liberations Ribbon with 2 bronze stars awarded, 4 bronze service stars for above campaigns per WDGO #33-40, in 1945 a good conduct medal, a lapel button, Asiatic-Pacific theatre campaign ribbon, 5 overseas service bars, and a Victory Ribbon. He was also awarded the purple heart per 60#32 United States Army Troops on August 2, 1943. He was wounded in action at Attu Island on May 29, 1943. He re-enlisted on June 14, 1946 for three years in the United States Air Corps. He worked as a driller on an oil rig. He later worked for the railroad and also at Rock quarries. He then retired from Cooke’s Sales and Service as a steam cleaner.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Cossins on December 5, 1969, in Grant City, Missouri. She survives of the home. Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a former member of the American Legion Vern R. Glick Post #25.

Survivors include wife Sarah Winsor of the home; five sons, Gerald Winsor of Chillicothe, Missouri, Mike Winsor of Missoula, Montana, Robert Winsor Jr., Tony Winsor of Chillicothe, Missouri, Arthur Winsor and wife Glenda of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; seven daughters Beverly Jane, Anna Marie Moran and husband Donnie of Popular, Montana, Trish Morton of Robinson, Illinois, Georgie Baldey and husband John of Hawthorne, Nevada, Melody Fay and husband Billy of Wolf Point, Montana, Ruth Ann McPike of Kansas City, Missouri and Wanita Bowman and husband Bryan of Kansas City, Missouri; 28 grandchildren; and 45 Great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons Alan Winsor and Richard Lee; one daughter Lois Marie; one granddaughter Stephanie McPike; and one sister Juanita Martin.

Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, December 8, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home on Monday, December 8, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri.
