Widow Of Former Edina Resident, Her Son And Grandson Killed In Wreck

Three of the old time family here of G. J. Goeke of the shoe store on the west side of the square 40 or 50 years ago, were killed in a car-truck crash last Thursday, June 10, 1954, near Gafton [should be Grafton], Ill.

Those killed were: Mrs. Marian H. Goeke, 55, of East St. Louis, Ill., widow of Dr. Joseph Goeke, who died in 1926, and her son, Edward J. Goeke, 34 years old, and her grandson, Joseph Goeke, 2 years old, both of Pueblo, Colo.

Burial of Dr. Goeke and son, Joseph, was at East St. Louis Monday morning, and the body of Mrs. Marian H. Goeke was brought to Kirksville Tuesday about noon and a graveside service was held in Highland Park Cemetery there, the Rev. William Von Arx of Mary Immaculate Church officiating.

The accident resulting in the death of the three happened on Illinois Highway 100 nine miles northwest of Grafton, when a truck struck a culvert and veered into the Goeke machine.

Dr. Goeke, and employe of the Social Security Administration at Pueblo, and his family were visiting his mother at East St. Louis before he took up a new assignment at Billings, Mont.

Mrs. Goeke was a sister-in-law of Ed. H. Goeke of Goeke's Shoe Store in Kirksville and Henry Goeke of Greentop. She is survived by her 95-year-old mother and two daughters.
