Dorothy Mae Houston, 91, of Bettendorf, Iowa formerly of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Thursday evening (August 5, 1999) at Davenport, Iowa.
She was born on August 10, 1907 in Adair County, Missouri the daughter of Mason and Ola Lucinda (Conners) Lee. On August 4, 1932 in Lancaster, Missouri she married Owen N. Houston who preceded her in death on August 30, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by one son, Dennis L. Houston and wife Louise of La Plata, Missouri; two daughters, Shirley Peterson and husband Allen of Bettendorf, Iowa and Marilyn Barnhill and husband Donald of La Plata, Missouri; four grandchildren Allen L. Peterson II of Wheaton, Illinois. Carol D. Martin of Middletown, Ohio, Janet L. Eagan of Viola, Illinois and Cindy Ridgeway of New Franklin, Missouri and nine great grandchildren.
Mrs. Houston was reared and received her education in the Gibbs, Missouri area. She and her husband were engaged in farming for 18 years in the Hazel Creek area. In 1953 she and her husband moved to Kirksville, Missouri. She was employed as a nurse at Laughlin Hospital until her retirement in 1973. After the death of her husband she moved to Bettendorf, Iowa to be near her daughter. She had been in failing health for the past several years and had made her home at the Riverview Manor in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Kirksville, Missouri.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 Monday morning (August 9, 1999) at the Davis-Playle Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be after noon Sunday (August 8, 1999) and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
