Mrs. Sarah Leal Lawson died in Kirksville, June 7, 1895. She was born in Kortright, Delaware county, N. Y., June 8, 1808. Here she grew to womanhood and was married to John Lawson December 20, 1827. She was the mother of ten children, seven of whom grew to maturity, four still live to bless the memory of a faithful, loving mother.

In early life she united with the Associate Reformed Church in Kortright, but when the family came west in after years and located in Fountain Green, Illinois, they found no church of that denomination there. She transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church and has ever since been an earnest and consistent member, although most of the time during her residence in Kirksville she has been unable to attend church service on account of feeble health, yet she was deeply interested in its work and rejoiced in its prosperity.

Naturally of a retiring disposition she sought not the praise of the world but taught by example rather than by precept the love of the Savior in whom she rejoiced.

Funeral services were conducted in the First Presbyterian church by her pastor, Rev. M. H. Bradley after which loving friends followed the remains to Highland Park Cemetery where she rests free from care and pain. Of her it may truly be said, "The world is better for her having lived in it."
