Lloyd “Richard” Skyles of Mtn. Grove, Missouri passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the age of 82 years young at his home in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. He was born on May 16, 1937 in Cabool, Missouri and was the son to the late Alva and Pearl (Butts) Skyles.
Richard grew up in Cabool, Missouri, where he attended and graduated from Cabool High School in 1955. That is where he met the love his life, Sandra (Kay) Skyles, they were married in the spring of 1959. Kay and Richard went on to have three amazing children that they raised in Mansfield, Missouri. While Richard and Kay began their life together and raising their children, he began his career at Richard’s Brothers in 1957 and went on to co-own Radar’s IGA, returning back to Richard’s Brothers until his retirement in 2012. Richard served the Mansfield Fire Department for over 46 years in several positions and was always willing to fill in wherever he was needed. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Methodist Church of Mansfield, Board of Directors of the Bank of Mansfield, Volunteer Fire Department and P.I.C. (Private Industrial Council, Ozark Region 10). He was the past president of the Mansfield Lions Club, a member of the old hospital Board of Directors, a city councilman and a member of the Housing and Zoning boards for many years. After retiring from the grocery store and his many jobs, he enjoyed golfing, gardening, going to sporting events as well as spending time with his family and sweet friend Ilene.
Richard was a member of Mansfield Methodist Church for many years, before he and Kay moved to Mtn. Grove, since their move he has been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Richard had an unconditional love for Christ, his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his huge family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (Rader) Skyles; his mother, Pearl (Butts) Skyles; his father, Alva Skyles; his sisters, Patsy Ruth, Opal Altis, Virgina Hicks, Ruby Wood; his brothers, Junior Skyles and Leroy Skyles. He is survived by his three children, son, Kurt Skyles of Springfield, MO, daughter, Tresa and husband, Mark Helsley of Mansfield, MO and son, Kirby Skyles and wife, Crystal of Ava, MO; one brother, Robert Lee Skyles and wife, Carla of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Matthew Skyles and wife, Leslie, Amanda Boden and husband, Steve, Joseph Skyles and wife, Angel, Colton Skyles, Spencer Skyles, Camryn Lee and Caden Lee; eleven great-grandchildren, Elisa, Eryn, Madilyn, Peyton, Henley, Halee, Eva, Cora, Jayce, Maggie and Silas; one great-great grandchild, Rylynn; his close friend, Ilene Woods of Mtn. Saundra “Kay” Skyles (Rader) of Mtn. Grove, Missouri passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the age of 74 years young in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. She was born on November 24, 1941 in Niangua, Missouri the daughter of the late Lowell and Pauline (Stark) Rader.
Kay grew up in Cabool, Missouri, where she attended and graduated from Cabool High School in 1959. That is where she met the love her life and lifetime husband, Lloyd “Richard” Skyles and they were married in the spring of 1959. Kay and Richard went on to have three amazing children that they raised in Mansfield, Missouri. While raising the children, she spent most of her working career at Richard’s Brothers/ Radar’s IGA. After retiring from the grocery store, she enjoyed giving tours at the Laura Ingalls Wilder home and spending time with her grandchildren. Kay was a member of Mansfield Methodist Church for many years, before she and Richard moved to Mtn. Grove, since their move she has been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Kay had an unconditional love for Christ, her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her huge family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline (Stark) Rader; her father, Lowell Rader; her sister-in-law’s: Patsy Ruth, Opal Altis, Virginia Hicks and Ruby Skyles: brother-in-law’s, Junior Skyles and Leroy Skyles. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lloyd Richard Skyles; three children, son, Kurt Skyles of Springfield, MO, daughter, Tresa and husband Mark Helsley of Mansfield, MO and son, Kirby Skyles of Ava, MO; five grandchildren, Matthew Skyles, Amanda Boden, Joseph Skyles, Colton Skyles and Spencer Skyles; nine great-grandchildren, Elisa, Eryn, Madilyn, Peyton, Henley, Halee, Jayce, Maggie and Silas.
She had many brothers and sisters; Joy Lyons, Danny Rader, Jerry and wife, Louise Rader, Roger and wife, Karin Rader, Becky and husband, Bob Miller, Randy and wife, Nancy, Brent and wife, Diane Rader, Jeff and wife, Mindy, Rita and husband, Burt; brother-in-law, Robert-Lee Skyles and wife, Carla, and a host of nieces and nephews.
