Paul was a World War II veteran of the US Army 3196 Signal Service Company from July 7, 1942, to November 18, 1945. He was a wire chief and served in the European Theater where he was awarded three Bronze Stars. He maintained contact with his fellow soldiers through the years, hosting three of their reunions here in Springfield. He retired from Western Electric Company with 40 years' service and continued throughout his retirement years to enjoy working with circuit boards, small motors, and modifying anything he could get his hands on. He was a faithful member of the Walnut Lawn Church of God. He especially enjoyed the Thursday morning church group that held a devotional and then went out for breakfast together. Serving the Lord was the central focus of his life. He was also a lifetime member of the retired Telephone Pioneers, Communication Workers of America (CWA), and was one of the original members of the TelComm Credit Union.

In 1949, he was united in marriage to Fern Christian Nevatt of Poplar Bluff, MO, who survives him as well as his two children, Sue Nevatt and friend Susan Gettys of St. Robert, MO, and Mike Nevatt and wife Linda of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Tera, Steven, Stephanie and Tara; 9 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Eagleburger and husband, Don; along with a niece, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Frances Nevatt.
