Isaac (Dutch) Adams, 60, a farmer, was struck and killed at Sturgion street near Coates about 7 o'clock yesterday evening by a Ford coupe driven by E. E. Claypool, 501 Rollins street. The accident occurred in front of the Rupp Coal and Junk Yard. Adams probably never saw the car, according to witnesses. Claypool had just crossed the Wabash tracks at Coates street and was turning south on Sturgeon, while Adams was slowly crossing the street. The accident occurred about the center of the street. The force of the blow broke Adam's neck, according to physicians and Coroner Dr. Martin McLellan. Claypool was exonerated of any blame for the accident by a coroner's jury last night. He testified to the jury that he never saw Adams until he was upon him and though he was running at a moderate rate of speed and did everything to stop his car, the accident was unavoidable. Mr. Claypool was very nervous and broken from the tragic experience. Other witnesses testified that Claypool was driving at a moderate rate of speed and that the street corner was dark and there was a fog at the time of the accident. Claypool said that he was looking out for cars from other directions as well as Sturgeon street when he turned the corner. Joe Railing, a high school youth who, with George Everding and Harry Griffith, saw the accident. He remarked to his companions "That man is going to get hit," and then turned his head. The boys called a physician immediately after the accident. Members of the coroner's jury, which assisted in the inquest last night were: Geo. W. Sparks Jr., foreman, Dr. E. L. Enis, Paul Barnes, John Betz, E. D. Finch and J. W. Hopson. Mr. Adams is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Joel Collins, of Moberly, Mrs. Russell Jenkins, of near Moberly, and Miss Dorothy Adams, of Moberly, and one son, John, who resided with his father at the home place, three miles northeast of Moberly. Mr. Adams had resided in the vicinity northeast of Moberly for 15(?) years. Funeral services will be conducted from the Hickory Grove Baptist Church at Ash at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon and burial will be made at the Hughes' Cemetery.
