Obituary from the Caruthersvile Democrat, Caruthersville, Pemiscot, MO, Thursday, Nov. 5, 1896, page 4, column 2:
Accidentally Shot.
While on a deer hunt on Little river, Tuesday before last James Ash, of Cooter, was accidentally shot by Gus Hardesty of the same place.
Ash died from his wounds Friday morning and was buried in the Catholic burying ground at Cooter Saturday.
The accident is generally regretted by the people of that vicinity as both the persons concerned are well connected and well to-do persons.
