Robert “Bob” Eugene Adkison was born March 6, 1935, in Pulaski County, Missouri, to Harry and Sylvia Adkison. On February 12, 2020, Bob finished his course at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 6 days of age. Some of his last words were, “with Jesus Christ, all things work out.”
Bob lived on a small farm in what is now part of Fort Leonard Wood. When World War II started, the family moved to a farm outside of Cabool. One of Bob’s favorite childhood stories is telling how he would skip church on Sunday morning so he could listen to his mom and dad sing in a gospel quartet live on the radio broadcast from Willow Springs. He got away with it until the time he forgot to disconnect the battery from the radio.
Bob joined the United States Army during the Korean War and served as an aircraft mechanic in Japan. After he returned home he was united in marriage to Mable Curry. Four children were born to this union, Dennis, Dale, Deborah, and Diana. They raised their family in Cabool.
Bob worked at several jobs throughout his life from the shoe factory, to selling insurance, and finally the railroad. He started with Frisco railroad in 1972 and retired to his farm in 2000.
Bob was ordained to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1964. He preached in many churches over the years and served as pastor at Steely Chapel in Elk Creek, Happy Ridge, Providence, and Mount Pisgah Free Will Baptist Churches. Serving the Lord was his greatest joy and he was never too proud to fill any position where he was needed, serving as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Mount Pisgah for several years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sylvia Adkison, an infant brother and sister, Warren and Gloria Adkison, brother, Harry Adkison Jr. and wife, Lila, sister Wanda Knaak and husband, Paul, beloved son, Dale Adkison, and nephew, Ronnie Adkison. Bob’s brother-in-law, Arnold Curry, also passed away the day following his own passing. They had been praying for each other and now they have both received eternal healing.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mable Adkison, one son, Dennis Adkison and wife, Tinya, two daughters, Deborah Adkison and Diana Young and husband, Phill, five grandchildren, Sabrina, Rae, Tanya and husband, Eric, Zoe, and Aidan, one great-grandson, Oskar, sister-in-law, Edna Richardson and husband, Harry and family, brothers-in-law, Donald Curry and family and Larry Curry and family, and so many other treasured family members that he loved.
