Evelyn Ruth Lewis, daughter of the late Jessie Johnston and Mary Graham Johnston, was born July 4, 1923, in Ozark County, Missouri, and died June 24, 2021, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 97 years.
She was united in marriage December 16, 1939, in Ozark County, Missouri, to Lee Johnson. She later married Don Lewis.
She is survived by two children, Ronnie Johnson and wife Carolian, West Plains, Missouri, Carolyn (Johnson) Collins and husband Larry, Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren, Shari Perkins, Tracy Johnson and wife Jennifer, Amanda Collins, and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; seven siblings, Lyman Johnston, Lewis Johnston, Emil Johnston, Guy Johnston, Ralph Johnston, May Johnston, and Ella Owsley.
Evelyn spent her early years on Kelley-Wylder Ranch in Ozark County. She helped her husband at times with his iron ore business. Later, she worked 12 years for Baxter Lab of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Most of her life she was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She resided the last twelve years at Magnolia Square in Springfield, Missouri, where she was loved by many of the staff. They soon found out what to expect when she set off the fire alarm, and the fire department showed up. She was affectionately known as a "firecracker." Evelyn also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She had been a member of the Church of Christ since a young girl and attended Central Church of Christ in West Plains before moving to Springfield.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 11:00 to 12:00 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel and graveside services will be held at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
