Eugene Walter Marvin, 75, of Willow Springs, Missouri passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Known to most folks by his nickname, "Bud," he was born to Stanley Lee Marvin and Genevieve Mamie (Fisher) Marvin in Sacramento, California, in 1946.
Bud grew up in Willow Springs, where he attended Davis School and Willow Springs Public Schools. He was a great athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track. He served in the US Army in Korea during the Vietnam War; he met and married his wife Claudia Erskine while stationed at Fort Carson, and then went to Alaska. Together, they raised four children, Cyndi, Eddy, Eric, and Cathy. After leaving the Army, he and Claudia moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he attended Southwest Missouri State University, and he later worked as a surveyor and did industrial maintenance for Zenith and Kraft Foods.
Bud had many interests: he canoed on Missouri Rivers, raced canoes with his younger brother, John, and son, Eddy; made hand-crafted canoe paddles with his dad; Stanley Lee "Hank" Marvin; helped return the Star Theater in Willow Springs to life as a performing arts venue; and participated in Civil War reenactments. He was involved in the Legion Hall and Historical Society. Bud loved to make stuff: hunting knives, historical firearms, archery equipment, hand tools. He had a passion for hiking in the mountains, camping, flea marketing, teasing/joking, eating at the Diamond Head in West Plains, and tinkering with things in general. He especially loved horses, dogs, and cats; however, he loved all wildlife and just nature in general.
Bud was preceded in death by parents Hank and Jenny Marvin, and brother in law Gordon Erskine.
He is survived by his wife Claudia; their children: Cyndi and Tim Hull, Eddy and Gretchen Marvin, Eric and Ladonna Marvin, and Cathy and Joe Hutchinson. Further surviving are his brother, John Marvin, and sister-in-law, Pam Gordon, and nephew, Emerson Gordon-Marvin. Sister-in-law, Polly Erskine, and grandchildren, Zane Hull, David Marvin, Skyler Davis, Jacob and Morgan Hutchinson, and Alexis and Wyatt Parent.
A visitation for Bud will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. with a memorial service immediately following at Willow Funeral Home, LLC with President Don Christensen officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Willow Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home, LLC.
