MARVIN LEE WHITEMAN Marvin Lee Whiteman, 80, Kingsville, MO, (formerly of Cass County) died, Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City. Services 1 p.m. Friday, November 15, at Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Burial in Holden Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Marvin Lee Whiteman, 80, of Kingsville, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. He was born Wednesday, March 1, 1922 in Medford, MO, the son of Sherman Russell Whiteman and Frances Elizabeth Bryson Whiteman. An Army Veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre where he was awarded two bronze stars in the Battles of Normandy and Northern France. Mr. Whiteman had worked for the Rock Island Railroad, was a warehouseman for John Deere and an inspector for Ford Motor Co., both in Kansas City and had been a Cattleman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garden City. On April 7, 1950 in Kansas City, MO, he married Stella Mae Murphy. She survives of the home. Survivors include four sisters, Opal Talley, Holden, Cora Thomason, Clinton, Dollie Lyman, Kansas City, Margaret Olson, Holden and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Arwood and Dorothy Thomason Arnold and three brothers, Claude, Forrest, and Billy Whiteman. Funeral services were held Friday, November 15, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Rev. Bob Ingle officiated. Pallbearers were Glenn Thomason, Dale Talley, Russell Arwood, Bruce Murphy, Jason Gudde, and Martin Shipley. Interment was at the Holden Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post No. 5844 and American Legion Post No. 90, both of Holden. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Garden City. (Holden Progress)
