An Aged Mother Passes Away

The spirit of a grand old mother was wafted to its eternal home on Jan. 15, 1909 — Mrs. Amanda Morris, beloved mother of A. B. Morris, residing 5 miles northeast of Cassville, of lagrippe, aged 75 years. She was born in Robberson county, Tenn., and lived there until she arrived at womanhood, when she and Jackson Morris were married and moved to Dade county, Mo., in 1845; her husband died in 1860, and most of the time since she has resided with her son A. B. Morris and family. She left two sons, A. B., of near this city, and Luther Morris of near Greenfield; twelve grand-children and six great-grandchildren. For forty years she had been a consistent member of the M. E. Church, South. The remains were conveyed by rail to South Greenfield, accompanied by her son A. B. Morris and wife on the 16th, and were there met by a large number of relatives and friends and on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 17, she was laid to rest in the Morris family cemetery beside her husband.

None ever entered her home without a warm welcome nor left without the warmth of a genuine hospitality, so characteristic of the people of her ancestry. Disease did not destroy the charm of a kind, indulgent disposition, nor old age diminish her unselfish solicitude for her friends and loved ones.

Vain is any attempt to measure the loss of a mother to her children; after all the poets have sung and lovers dreamed, outside of heaven there is no love like mother-love. We believe the tender care devoted to those nearest and dearest, went with her to the better land, and in the possibilities of eternity may be a blessing hereafter. Her son A. B. Morris and wife did everything possible for her in her last illness, and are very thankful for all favors extended by their neighbors and friends.
