One of Charleston's Best Known Citizens Dies

CHARLESTON June 1 — Funeral services for Ralph Carson, 60, one of Charleston's better known citizens, will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Methodist Church with the Rev. William L. Meyer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alfred Smith, D.D. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery with Nunnelee Service.

A resident of Charleston for 41 years, Mr. Carson was born Dec. 20, 1892 at DeSoto, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William V. Carson. He died at 11:30 a.m. yesterday at his home, 208 N. Virginia, following a lingering illness.

A seed and feed dealer and farmer, he owned the Ralph Carson Co.

Until ill health forced him to retire from civic and business activities, Mr. Carson was one of the most active men in Charleston. He was on the board of stewards at the Methodist Church, had served for 25 years as superintendent of Sunday school, was a member f the City Council for many years, was on the board of education for 25 years, and an active member of the Kiwanis Club and Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Howlett Carson; a son, Jack Carson, of Charleston; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Baker, of Sikeston; and four grandchildren.
