Paul Ernest Fieker, of Stotts City, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2009, in St. John's Hospital, in Springfield, after a long illness, at the age of 87. He was born on August 22, 1921, in Stotts City, to Edward H. and Martha (Weltge) Fieker. Paul was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, southwest of Mt. Vernon, and attended Stotts City School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 892nd Ordinance H. A. M. Company in the South Pacific. He was a life long farmer, a heavy equipment operator and a rural mail carrier for many years. Those who survive him include two sisters, Hulda Talty and Elizabeth (Bill) Brazeale, both of Springfield; a brother, Rev. Fred (Carolyn) Fieker of Stotts City; a sister-in-law, Maxine Fieker of Mt. Vernon; seven nieces and four nephews. His parents; two sisters, Evelyn and Irma Fieker; a brother, Edwin Fieker, a brother-in-law, Dr. TN Talty; and a niece, Mrs. Patricia Shaw, preceded him in death. A graveside service, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009, in Zion Church Cemetery, southwest of Mt. Vernon. Family will receive friends immediately following in Zion Church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society or the Missouri Children's home, in care of the funeral home.
