News reached this city Thursday morning that Joe Gilmer, 23, young farmer of Cooter, had committed suicide about ten o'clock of the night previous by shooting himself through the heart with a revolver after he had retired for the night. A coroner's jury next day held that he had come to his death by gunshot, self-inflicted.
No reason is known for the rash act and he left no message of any sort. He had retired somewhat early that night, it seems, and along about ten o'clock he asked his wife to see what time it was. As soon as she had left the bed he fired a shot from a 32-caliber revolver, which evidently he had placed beneath his pllow, and died within a very few minutes.
The deceased young man was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gilmer of the Cooter vicinity and his wife was Miss Florine Terry, a daughter of Mrs. Melvin Terry of Cooter. In addition he is survived by one or two children, we understand.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church in Cooter and interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery nearby. Douglis Bivens of this city (and perhaps others from here) attended the funeral, he being a cousin of the wife of the deceased young man.
