Mrs. Miney Smith passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, while at Cox Medical Center in Springfield. Born on Sept. 1, 1935, in Vanzant, Mo., to Luey and Letha (Smelser) Wake, she was 76 years old.
Mrs. Smith grew up in Willow Springs, where she attended the local schools. In 1953, she married Charles J. Smith, and to this union a daughter was born. She lived in the Willow Springs area until moving to Springfield in 1966. Miney had many enjoyments in her life such as embroidery; however, the greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles J. Smith in 2003; her brothers, Harold, Lloyd and Russell Dean Wake; and two sisters Gertrude Lemonds and Violet Bittick.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Diane Raxter, of Springfield; her two granddaughters, Dakota Raxter of Springfield, Valerie Falson and her husband Randy of Springfield; and her great-granddaughters, Chante Falcon, Cholena Falcon, Nizhoni Falcon, and Daneja Cash. Her brother Virgil Wake and his wife Barbara of Sherman, Texas; and her sister Margie Landmann of Highland, Il., further survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Willow Funeral Home. Burial will follow Tuesday's service at Mt. Ararat Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
