Paul Henry Cooper, the son of the late Walter Cooper and Lois Boon Cooper, was born December 25, 1915, at Steele, Mo. He died August 22, 1986, at Memphis, Tenn., at the age of 70.
On June 29, 1947, he was married to Frances Harrell whom he leaves.
He also leaves one son: Rick Cooper of Cooter, Mo.; two daughters, Lois June Freeman of Batesville, Ark.; and Paula Jeanine England of Decaturville, Tenn. His mother;: Lois Cooper of Cooter; one brother: Tom Cooper of Lexington, Tenn.; two sisters: Mattie Hall of Steele, and Jeanetta Huxtable of West Memphis, Ark.; and six grandchildren.
A brother, Gus Cooper, of Cooter, preceded Mr. Cooper in death in 1976. A sister, Helen Cooper died in 1912.
Mr. Paul Cooper was a 1934 graduate of Steele High school. As a Master Sergeant in the 43rd Engineers in World War II, he received several awards, among them the Bronze Star for service in New Guinea, Patuan, and the East Indies.
After war service from March 1941 to September 1945, Mr. Cooper worked for his brother Gus in Cooper and Company Grocery in Cooter. In 1958, he bought South Pemiscot Oil Company in Steele, which his son, Rick, oeprates.
Mr. Cooper served as elder of Steele Church of Christ for over 20 years. He served as mayor of the town of Cooter and he was active in the Lions Club, serving as its president.
Service was held at the Church of Christ in Steele Sunday, August 24, 1986, at 2 p.m. Mr. Mark Raulerson officiated.
Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steele, with arrangements by German-Aumon Funeral Home.
