Argel “Gene” Davis went to be with his Lord on August 23, 2015 while at Willow Care Nursing Home due to natural causes. Born October 23, 1932 to Argel and Eulah (Perkins) Davis in Sutton, West Virginia, he was 82 years old.
Gene married Phyllis M. Schell on October 7,1956. They remained married for 56 years. To this union, they had four children. Gene was a member of the United States army as a sergeant in the early 1950‘s during the Korean war. Gene worked for Anaconda Wire and Cable in Sycamore, Il for 18 years. After being promoted to an office position, he received training from Kishwaukee Community College where he learned his aptitude with computers. He was later offered and accepted the position as Data Processing Instructor at the college. When he retired from teaching, Gene went to M.O.S. where he did a lot of traveling setting up computer systems for Doctors offices and hospitals. He retired from here after several years. Upon his retirement, Gene went to work at Barnaby Printing in Dekalb, Il. When both Gene and Phyllis finally retired, they moved to Missouri where they became active members of the First General Baptist Church in Willow Springs where Gene became a deacon.. Gene thoroughly enjoyed his relationship with his Heavenly Father and his church family. He also enjoyed teaching his Sunday school class for several years. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by his children, Pat (Michael) Lieving of Willow Springs; Pam Davis of Mountain View; Paul (Sarah) Davis of Willow Springs; and Glenn (Nelvy) Davis of Willow Springs. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held for Mr. Davis Saturday, August 29th, at 12:00pm at the First General Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Williamson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00am-12:00pm. Interment will be held at the Willow Springs City Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene's name to the Gideons at PO Box 555, West Plains, MO 65775. On-line condolences may be made at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
