Melissa Dawn Wiederaenders Vonallmen, 61 of Cabool, MO lost her short battle with cancer April 10, 2017. She was in her home surrounded by her family and loved ones. Melissa had a testimony of her Savior’s love and was sustained by that even as she was finishing her mortal mission. She believed in hope, service, charity, and kindness, something she was able to demonstrate with her faithful activity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Melisa Dawn Wiederaenders Vonallmen was born November 13, 1955, in Pasadena TX. She is the daughter of Warren Weikel (Tex) and Olive Rose Wiederaenders. Melissa was the 7th of 8 children who moved to the Success, Mo area when she was only 4. Melissa enjoyed barrel racing and breaking horses. You would be able to see her riding her pony Pinkfink around the community with her sisters.
Melissa had a great love of music and pursued that passion in college, where she met the other love of her life Jake Vonallmen. They married on June 7, 1974 at Point Look Out, Mo. Their union was blessed with seven children. They spent many years living on dairy farms in Success, MO, Dunn, MO, finally settling in Cabool, MO. Even with a busy family she was able to get her teaching degree from Drury College and later her Master’s in Education from Southwest Baptist University. She instilled in her children a great love of learning, so much so that they all achieved some form of higher education. She spent 20 years in the Cabool School District. She taught Social Studies and Life Skills. She engaged her students by tap dancing, juggling and telling a daily joke showing that there is more to education than what was in the books and inspired her students with her honest love for learning.
When Melissa retired after the 2013-2014 school year, she was able to continue her busy life style taking care of her mother and volunteering in the community. She was able to follow her love of music participating in the community band and later the S.T.A.R.S. foundation playing her bass clarinet in the band with her grandchildren. She was a clever songwriter and wrote songs for her retiring co-workers as well as songs about her faith and beliefs. She became a Scoutmaster and helped several young men achieve their Eagle Scout, including all the grandsons that were old enough to. She started working for the Cabool Enterprise typing the Texas County Sheriff’s report until she was unable to continue working.
