Wife of William Mead
Married: 17 Nov 1875 Morgan, Illinois

Mrs. Jane Radley Mead was born in Logan county, Ills., August 2d, 1849, later on in life moving to Nebraska and from there finally settling near Greencastle, Mo., dying at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.C. Nicholson April 12, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 10 days. She was married to Mr. William Mead November 17, 1875, to which union three children were blessed – two girls and a boy. One daughter preceded her mother in death, Mrs. Christa Sterns, dying about three years ago. The husband of the deceased, Mr. Wm. Mead, died March 23, 1895, leaving her to support and rear her children, the best way she could which she did in a most noble way, proving her devotion as a true mother to her children. In her early twenties she was converted and united with the Christian church and was faithful to her duties as a Christian up to her decease. Neighbors will testify to her integrity as a Christian, mother, wife and neighbor. The funeral services were conducted at the home of the family, where many friends had gathered to pay their last respects to this aged saint. Those who are left to mourn their loss at this deceased, beside the son, William, and one daughter, Mrs. R.C. Nicholson of Greencastle, are one brother, Henry Radley of Norton, Kansas, eighteen grand children, three great grand children and a host of friends. Interment at Ringoes [sic] Point cemetery. Thus has another life passed on, the memories and fragrance of which shall linger long with those who knew her best and therefore loved her most. – Greencastle (Mo.) News.

Mrs. Mead was well known in Nelson, having made her home for a time with her brother Henry Radley. When Mr. Radley sold out, she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Lon Stern until Mrs. Stern’s death three years ago, when she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Nicholson at Greencastle.
