Died in this county, on the 19th inst. Mrs. Jane Ransom, consort of Mr. Jonathan Ransom, in the 62d year of her age. She was the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Martin, who were originally From Dublin, Ireland. Mr. Martin organized the first Masonic Lodge ever constituted in the city of Pittsburg. The deceased, Mrs. Ransom, was born and married in Butler County, PA, near Evansburg. Mr. and Mrs. Ransom for several years have resided in this county, and part of the time near this city, the society of which was very much identified with them and their family. Mrs. Ransom was the mother of nine children - four sons and daughters - six of whom are living, and five of them were present at her death. One of her daughters is the wife of Col. W.T. Porter of this city. Mrs. Ransom's illness lasted eleven weeks. Her affliction was abscess of the bowels.
The deceased had been a professor of religion for many years, being a consistent and worthy member of the M.E. Church South. Her memory is fondly cherished by those who knew her best. She watched the approach of death with composure and resignation and her last hours were peaceful and triumphant. "She rests from her labors, and her works will follow her." May the living be also ready, and the God of Grace comfort and sustain the bereaved.
