MRS SEARS DIES IN KANSAS CITY

Husband Was One Of Founders of National Bank in Jefferson City

RESIDENT MANY YEARS

Often Visited Here Until Age Forbade; Reached Age of 91

Mrs. Bettie Boone Sears, widow of John T. Sears; Sr., co-founder of the old First National Bank of Jefferson City, died yesterday at Kansas City. She was 91 years old, November 17.

Mrs. Sears left Jefferson City nearly a half-century ago, but she was widely known among Capital Citizens. Before leaving for Kansas City, she was a social leader in the Capital City and her husband was one of the leading financiers here.

She was the daughter of W.C. Boone and Lucy Daly, Missouri Pioneers. She was born in Howard county and was a direct descendant of Daniel Boone.

Husband Died Here

Her father died in 1894. For many years he was associated with the late John S. Fleming in the banking house of Fleming and Sears before the First National Bank was founded. The banking house was the predecessor of the First National Bank, which Mr. Sears helped organize.

Before advanced age forced her to remain inside, Mrs. Sears visited Jefferson City frequently. Following the death of her husband, she lived a quiet life with her family and friends. Relatives said she believed that a woman's interests should be in her home rather than in outside activities.

Mrs. Sears is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles S. Gill, with whom she made her home. A son, John T. Sears, who followed his father in the real estate business at Kansas City, died in 1929.

In recent, years, Mrs. Sears' principal Interest in Jefferson City was the maintenance of the family lot in the Woodlawn cemetery, where her husband is buried. Her body will be brought here for burial tomorrow morning. Brief services will be held at the grave.
