Services will be held at 2 p.m. here tomorrow in the Baptist Church for Joe Thurston, 49 year-old former resident who was killed Thursday in a stone quarry accident at Shawnee, Kansas.
The Rev. Millard Box, Neosho, will officiate assisted by the Rev. Clarence Crawford of Goodman. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, under the direction of the Williams Funeral Home of Goodman.
Mr. Thurston had moved to Shawnee three years ago, after making his home at Goodman for 27 years. He was killed around 6 o'clock Thursday when the loading arm of a high lift loader fell on his head.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marie Thurston, of the home in Shawnee, nine children of the home: Sherman, Stanley, Jimmy, Larry, Lavoy, Denzil, Joanne, Barbara and Caroll and three other sons, Ronald and Glen, both of Shawnee, and Marine PFC Melvin Thurston in San Diego, California; his mother, Mrs. Mary Clayton, Goodman, and two sisters. Ida Mason, Shawnee, and Dollie Hoffman, Kansas City.
Marie G. Thurston, 83, Kansas City, formerly of Neosho, died at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 0, 1990, at Baptist Medical Center, Kansas City, after a long illness.
Mrs. Thurston was born March 30, 1907 at Goodman. She moved to Kansas City from Neosho about 24 years ago. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thurston.
Survivors include three daughters, Jolene Bushey and Barbara Byrd, both of Kansas City, and Carol Severs, Oklahoma; six sons, Larry Thurston, Kansas City, Melvin Thurston, Prosperity, Glenn Thurston, Kansas, Sherman, Thurston, Oklahoma, Jimmie Thurston, Kansas; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. The Rev. Ellis Hacker will officiate. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Goodman.
Pallbearers will be Walter Grimsley, Curtis Grimsley, Danny Severs, Dennis Severs, Steven Thruston and Ronnie Wield.
