SPRINGFIELD - Leta Trask passed away at home in Springfield, MO, on May 13th, 2021 surrounded by family who loved her. She was 92. Born December 2, 1928 in Pocahontas Arkansas, she was one of 7 siblings born to Marion and Celia Tyler. She had a deep love for nature, especially birds and horses. She could often be found just sitting quietly enjoying the sounds of the beauty around her. Leta had a deep and abiding love of her savior Jesus Christ and spent much of her time working to share the word with others. She spent 25 years ministering to sick and recovering inmates and the Federal Medical Penitentiary in Springfield, always trying to remind them of God's forgiving love. Leta married Jack Preston Trask on May 17, 1945 in Springfield, MO. They had two children, Jacquelyn Sue Trask (1957) and David Allen Trask (1947). Leta was always very active in the PTA, Camp Fire Girls, and Boys Scouts with her kids while they were growing up. She taught Sunday school at various churches and always sang in the choir. After her children were grown, she adopted a teenaged son, John Carlson and loved him dearly. In her middle years of life, she often took people in briefly who needed a little extra help. Sometime missionaries who were just passing through, and sometimes those just down on their luck. But she was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. Throughout her life Leta spread her personality far and wide. She was one of the toughest and strongest people you could ever know and had a bit of a sassy streak in her later years. She was never afraid to speak her mind and tell you her thoughts but could also be quick with a loving poke or sly wink to let you know she loved you dearly. She loved her family and loved nothing more than to have them all in one place for a big meal and fellowship. She baked the best bread, strawberry rhubarb pie, and peanut butter fudge you would ever taste and she loved sharing these goodies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a card shark when it came to Uno, SkipBo, and various card games and would toss out the rules of decorum over a heated game with her children, grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren. She stood solidly by her family through tragedy and celebration and never wavered in her support. Even if she disagreed (which she would tell you) she would still be there, a stalwart support in your time of need. She is preceded in death by both her parents Marion and Celia who will be waiting for her in the great Kingdom. She is also preceded in death by her husband Jack P. Trask (1991), her brothers Jackie Tyler (1931) and Michael Tyler (2004), and her sisters Lillian Fay Payne (2006), Nona Blanche Larson (2010), and Annabelle Corson (2018) She will also be welcomed into heaven by her precious great-granddaughter Mackenzie Trask (2006). As well as her most beloved dog Valley. She is survived by both her children, David Trask of Springfield, MO and Jacque Polo (Richard Sumner) of Terra Ceia, Fl, as well as her grandchildren Christina Lodes (Dan) of St. Louis, MO, Lindsey Schopp-Gosnell (Billy) of Springfield, MO, Brittany Lansford (Ben) of Gainesville, Fl, Jonathon Trask (Franklin, Tn), and her adopted son John Carlson, and her great-grandchildren Daniel, Madison, and Vienne Lodes; Tristen and Zella Gosnell, and Calla Rae Lansford. She is also survived by her brother Lanty Tyler (Sarah). She survived by numerous friends and family and a community who will miss her dearly. A visitation will be held Monday, May 17, 2021 from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, with graveside services at 1:00 pm, Monday at Payne Cemetery, Nixa, MO, In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Help Give Hope.
