Elmer Smith Davidson, youngest son of William and Esther Mary Davidson, was born May 1, 1886, and passed away quite suddenly at his home on Smithton farm on Feb 6, 1949, at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 5 days. He was one of a family of nine children.
Mr. Davidson had been in failing health for four years and spent several weeks in St. Joseph and Rochester hospitals.
Elmer was educated in the Smithton, Mo., school and the public schools of Hoxie, Kansas. He also attended the St. Joseph Veterinary College from which he graduated in June, 1911. He practised his profession in both Missouri and Kansas, being located several years at Guilford and Ridgeway, Mo., and one year in Kansas.
He was successfully engaged in farming since early boyhood and owned the farm where he was born and reared. His greatest interest was his family and was alert to their physical needs and their education. They will ever remember his tireless efforts in encouraging their ambitions.
Elmer enjoyed the love and admiration of his devoted family and he appreciated fully their desires for his comfort. He enjoyed working with his sons and carefully guided them in the management of the farm and livestock raising.
On January 30, 1921, Dr. Davidson was united in marriage to Garsa L Ray at the Patee Park Church in St. Joseph. To this union five children were born. Four of whom survive. Elmer Smith Jr., passed away May 17, 1944, at the age of 17 years. Those surviving are his wife, Garsa L, and daughter, Esther E, and sons, William Jr, Chase E and John M Ray Davidson. He is also survived by one brother, Frank L Davidson of Horton, Kansas, and two sisters, Grace D Hudson of Denver, Colo, and Mrs. C.F. Burnham of San Gabriel, Calif. He was preced in death by his father in 1932 and mother in 1910 and by three brothers, Arthur L Davidson, who passed away March 1933, W.C.Davidson, Sept 1939, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred G Snider, July 2, 1926 and Mrs. J.R. Green, Sept 11, 1938.
Mr. Davidson was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church.
Burial was in the Grant City cemetery. The pall bearers were Omer James, Clayton Elliott, Jess Andrews, Hazen Bressler, Dale Bressler and Carl Craven. Songs, "In the Garden" and "No Tears In Paradise" were beautifully sung by Jay Seat of Albany, Mo. Music by Billy Allen Robertson.
