John Leonard Bishop departed this life January 13th, 1904 of general disability of nearly two years. He gave his heart to Jesus in 1871 and united with the Methodist church in Iowa and lived in that church until 1887, when he came to Missouri and he united with the Baptist church in Billings in 1890 and lived a devoted Christian until his death. Thus, he died happy. His sufferings were dreadful, but in the midst of his sufferings he would often clap his hands and say. “I am so happy in Jesus.” He would often remark if it was not for the most miserable and he would beg his friend to meet him in heaven, as they stood around his bed and witnessed his suffering, and with tears, they would promise that they would meet him. I would says to you, “dear friends, do not forget that promise.” The deceased was born October 22nd, 1842 in Wayne County, Ohio. and lived there until he was eleven years old when he moved form there with his widowed mother and two brothers and one sister to Michigan and from there to Indiana where his mother died soon after and he was left an orphan at the age of 16 years. He them moved to Illinois with his brother, Dr. Bishop. He enlisted in the civil war in 1861 in Co. A 34th Illinois Regiment and served four long years and where he contracted the disease of which he died while serving his country. He was honorably discharged. In 1866, November 4th, he was united in marriage to Miss Jane C. Meade in Jasper county, Iowa and they lived there twenty-one years and to this union were born eleven children, five boys and six girls. In 1887, he moved with his family near Billings, Mo. and lived there none years and where he made a host of friends. He them moved his family near Highlandville, where he lived until his death. He leaves a devoted wife and eleven children and six grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his loss. He was a kind and giving husband and neighbor, be her trust that our loss will be heaven’s gain. The funeral services were conducted by Brothers James Cook and Sasser at the Baptist church in Highlandville, after which a large concourse of friends followed the remains to the Hammond graveyard where they were laid to await the resurrection morn. Cynthia Jane Meade was born Sunday, July 26th, 1840 in Leasure county, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph and Delighta Meade. She moved with her parents at the age of 5 years to Michigan. They then moved to Ohio when she was 15 years old and again to Illinois when she was twenty. In young womanhood. she was converted and united with the Free Will Baptist church. Her parents then moved to Storey county, Iowa, in 864, and as there was no Baptist church, she united with the M. E. church. One November 4, 1866, she was married to John Leonard Bishop. To this union eleven children, six daughters and five sons, were born. Her eldest daughter, Mrs. Delighta Belle Huselton, preceded her in death, passing away on February 15th, 1927. She leaves to mourn her departure, five daughters and five sons, who are Vina, Winnie, George and Blaine Bishop, all of Highlandville; C. H. Bishop of Chico, California; Mrs. Edna Goodhue of Indian Falls, California; Mrs. Ida Goodhue of Taylorsville, California; Mrs. Mary Giessman and Logan Bishop of Claremore, Oklahoma and W. E. Bishop of Chelsea, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She moved with her husband and family to Missouri in 1887, locating two miles east of Billings. She then united with the Missionary Baptist church at Billings. In 1896, the family moved to the homestead where she died. After moving there, she united with the First Central Baptist church inn which she lived a faithful Christian life until God called her at 9 o’clock December 25th, 1928. The last week of her life was spent in talking to her loved ones who had gone before. Her husband died on January 13th, 1904

Mrs. Cynthia Bishop -- Died Tuesday morning, December 25th, near Green Mound, aged 88 years, 4 months and 29 days. She was born in Pennsylvania. She was buried Thursday at Highlandville with Rev. Hanks officiating with burial under the direction of B. C. Klepper
