Nancy Jane Buchanan was born Dec. 11, 1844 in Johnson County, MO. She was married Sept. 27, 1863 to Christy Couts. To this union were born nine children. Her husband and four children departed this life some years ago. She is survived by one son and four daughters: Wade Couts, Springfield, MO; Dora Garrison, Huntington Beach, CA; Maria Baird, Ozark, MO; and Laura Page, Ozark, MO and Minnie Carmichael of Springfield. 21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren survive. She confessed faith in Christ when 18 years old and united with a Baptist church in North Missouri, later moving her membership to the Selmore Baptist church where she remained a faithful member until death. She came with her husband to Ozark more than 50 years ago, having lived a greater part of her life in this community and it is needless to say that she was known and loved by all who knew her. She departed this life Dec. 4,1932 at the home of her daughter, Laura, where she had made her home for some years, being 87 years, 11 months and 23 days of age at the time of her death. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. in the Selmore Baptist church by Rev. Ross Carter, with burial in the Highlandville cemetery under the direction of T.B. Chaffin.
