Clarence O. McCollum, 74, of Steele, died March 23, 1990 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Born Sept. 18, 1915 in Savannah, Tenn., he was the son of Andrew Jackson and Julie Ann Haywood McCollum. He served on the Steele City Council for 20 years. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Cemetery Board. He and his late wife, Gladys, had operated the Steele Theatre for many years. He also worked for Life and Casualty Insurance Co., now American General, for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Attie Bird Curtner McCollum of Steele; One son, Carl Curtner of Roswell, N.M.; Two daughters, Mrs. Becky Yarbrough of Dallas and Janis Curtner of Little Rock; And five grandchildren, Terri and Carla Curtner, both of Roswell and Lora, Mark and David Yarbrough, all of Dallas.
Services were March 26 at 2 p.m. at John W. German Funeral Home chapel in Steele, the Rev. Gene Edwards and Mark Raulerson officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
