Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Koury were held Sunday, January 22, 1961, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Caruthersville. She was 64 years of age.
The Reverend Jim D'Wolf officiated. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.
Mrs. Koury came to the United States from Batagerine, Lebanon, with her grandmother, Mrs. Anna Murr, in 1901. A naturalized American citizen, she had lived in Steele for more than 40 years.
She had been for many years associated with her husband and son and daughter in business in Steele. She earned many friends during that period, many of whom were World War II servicemen who carried with them fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Koury of Steele.
Mrs. Koury was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was a charter member of Steele Chapter 330, Order of the Eastern Star.
She leaves her husband, N. Koury of Steele; a son, Phillip Koury; and a daughter, Miss Olga Koury, both of Steele; her mother, Mrs. Saloma Murr of Lebanon; two brothers, Moses and Ellis, both of Lebanon; and four sisters, Mrs. Phillipia Saliba, Mrs. Mary Murr, Mrs. Domina Murr and Miss Bahia Murr, all of Lebanon.
