Lawrence P. Mitchell, prominent Steele citizen and land owner, died suddenly of a heart attack in his home Tuesday night at the age of 59.
Mr. Mitchell, who had been in failing health for a year, came to Pemiscot County in 1932 from Randolph, Miss., and was later united in marriage to Miss Ammadell Turner. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Funeral services were held Thurday afternoon, November 10, 1955 at 2:00 p.m. in the Steele Baptist Church, conducted by Reverend Howard Hamrick and Reverend W.H. Cook of Blytheville. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Steele Lodge No. 634 AF & AM was in charge of graveside services.
Besides his wife, Mr. Mitchell is survived by one brother, John Mitchell of Bragg City; and five sisters, Mrs. J.J. Stewart, Mrs. George Poland and Mrs. D.D. Dickey of Tchula, Miss., Mrs. D.L. Henry of Randolph and Mrs. Allen Henry of Pontotoc, Miss.

Mrs. Amma Turner Mitchell, 93, of Steele, Mo., died Monday, June 28, 1993 at River Oaks Nursing Home in Steele.
Born January 17, 1900, she was a daughter of the late Chesterfield and Jerusha Wilson Turner.
Her husband, "L. P." preceded her in death.
Affiliated with the First Baptist Church, Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Eastern Star, Missionary Society, and Book Club of Steele. She was a school teacher and homemaker.
In September of 1919 at Randolph, Miss., she was united in marriage with Lawrence "L.P." Mitchell.
Mrs. Mitchell leaves two brothers, M.G. Turner of Steele and John Paul Turner of Hornersville, Mo.; a sister, Lillian McDaniel, of Steele, and 25 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mitchell were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1993, at Bradshaw's German-Aumon Chapel in Steele, with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating.
Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with arrangements by Bradshaw German-Aumon Funeral Home of Steele.
Ricky Turner, David Turner, Wendell Turner, Bobby G. Turner, Jerry Turner and Charles Turner, all nephews of Mrs. Mitchell were pallbearers.
