11 STORY FALL FATAL to YOUTH
A fall from the 11th floor of the Edway Building in Memphis, under construction at Second and Jefferson, claimed the life of a 29-year-old steelworker Friday morning, August 5th.
Paul Thomas Prince of 1883 Galloway was knocked to the ground by the brace on a pipe used to move steel beams at 8:35 a.m. The pipe fell with him. Mr. Prince died almost instantly.
Homicide Capt. W.W. Wilkinson said Mr. Prince and three other workers were preparing to move the 30-foot-long pole from the 12th floor when a rope broke. The other workers scrambled to safety. Mr. Prince was about six feet from the pole when it broke loose. Work was stopped for the day after the accident.
Mr. Prince was born in Corinth, Miss., and was reared in Steele, Mo. He had been living in Memphis for about five years and was employed by Blass Construction Co. He was a Baptist and a World War II veteran.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Reba Prince; a son and a daughter; his mother, Mrs. Barbara Prince, of Memphis; four brothers, Stanton and Frank Prince of Memphis and R.G. Prince of El Paso, Texas, and Cpl. Ralph Prince, with the Marine Corps stationed at Santa Ana, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Jean Hopper of El Paso, and Mrs. Amy Carr of Memphis.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday by Rev. W.C. Ward in the Micola Baptist Church with interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
