Sgt. J.C. Statler was killed in action in Germany March 6, 1945, the War Department has informed his brother, Vacel Statler. The telegram which was received Tuesday revealed no other information.

Born at Hornersville, Sgt. Statler spent all of his civilian life in and around Steele.

He is survived by four brothers: Jim Statler of Detroit, Mich., Eugene and Vacel of Steele and Onie Statler of Leachville, Ark., one sister, Mrs. Louise Robinson of Jackson, Miss., and two half brothers, Merl and Bill Jobe, one half sister, Mrs. Mable Rogers, all of California.
