FORMER CHIEF OF POLICE DIES OF HEART ATTACK AT HOME TUESDAY NIGHT
Henry Lovelace, perhaps one of Pemiscot County's best known men, died of a heart attack at his home on North Walnut Tuesday night at 10:35. He was an active member of the Steele Church of Christ and a member of the Masonic and Oddfellows Lodges.
Mr. Lovelace was born on August 5, 1898 in Halls, Tenn. to John and Lou Lovelace. The family moved to Blytheville when he was 13 years old. He made his home there, farming, until 1923. At that time he moved to near Steele, and farmed until 1937, when he moved to Steele. Mr. Lovelace served as the town's night Marshall for three years, was constable of the Cooter Township for four years and was elected Chief of Police in 1942. He held that position until April 1956. He served Pemiscot County as Deputy Sheriff for 24 years, serving until January of this year. At the time of his death he was employed by the Missouri Wirebound Box Co.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Lovelace; a daughter, Mrs. Marshall Crawford of Memphis; three sons, Billy, who is in the Air Force, stationed in Japan, Sonny of Blytheville, and Jerry, a student at Steele High School; one brother and three sisters.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending arrival of his son from Japan.

Funeral service for Mrs. Ethel Lovelace was held Friday, January 8, in Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville. Officiating was Mr. Olin Kern.
Mrs. Lovelace died January 6 at the age of 67. She had been employed at Robert Hamra's Department Store in Steele for the past 12 years.
Born in Blytheville, she had been an area resident all of her life and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of Henry Lovelace, who died January 29, 1957.
She leaves three sons, Bill of Blytheville, Henry Neal of Henderson, N.C., and Jerry Don, Steele; one daughter Mrs. Marshall Crawford of Memphis; three brothers, Lewis Woodard of Florissant, Mo., Clarence Woodard of Caruthersville and Vernon Woodard of Ennis, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Burdan, also of Ennis and Mrs. Evans Wilson of Florence, Ala.; and four grandchildren.
Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.
