Funeral service was held for Walter "Buck" Barnard Tuesday, Octiber 28, 1980, at the German-Aumon Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Fred Pritchett officiated.

Mr. Barnard was born October 1, 1912 at Denton and died October 27, 1980 at the Chickasawba Hospital in Blytheville. He was 68.

He leaves his wife, Lear Key Barnard of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Howell of Granite City, Ill., and Mrs. Charlotte Lane of Hazelwood, Mo.; three sons, Clay Barnard of Lemay, Mo., Neal Barnard of Florissant, Mo., and Jadie Barnard Steele; three sisters, Mrs. Edith Wiggs of Lambert, Miss., Mrs. Viola Chestnut of Lutz, Fla., and Mrs. Ernie Morton of West Memphis, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gervis Capps, Willie Williams, Jerry Howell, Glenn Griffin, A. D. Tate, and Larry Lovelace.

Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with the German-Aumon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lear Mattie Elizabeth Barnard, 91, of Steele, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in Hayti.

Born March 6, 1917 in Pemiscot County, she is the daughter of the late Walter Key and Mamie Overturf Key. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Barnard Howell; three sons, Neil, Carl and Jadie Barnard; one grandson, James Douglas Howell; and one granddaughter, Tenah Barnard.

Lear was united in marriage to Walter "Buck" Barnard on July 15, 1932 in Blytheville, Ark. He preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Denton Assembly of God Church. She taught the youth Sunday School class for many years. She taught using many life experiences as examples. During her active membership she was very supportive of the many church activities, and was instrumental in much of the church growth. She believed in instilling the values which she lived by into all of her children and those with whom she came into contact.

Mrs. Barnard leaves one son, Clay Barnard and his wife Gladie, of St. Louis; one daughter, Charlotte Keller and her husband Homer of St. Louis; one brother, Jerry Holland and his wife Nadine, of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren: Regina Howell Chrisop of Bethalto, Ill., Tammy Brisker of Dallas, Texas, Donna Sneed of Jupiter, Fla., Paula McConnell of Jefferson City, Carl Barnard, Jr. of Gideon and Teresa Barnard of Steele; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barnard were held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 17, at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with Rev. Charles Clark and Rev. Azariah Jeyakumar officiating.

Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.

Pallbearers were Josh Morton, Joel Morton, Todd Mays, Tony Davis, Richard McConnell and Fred Williams.

Honorary pallbearers wre Willie Williams and Glenn Griffin.
