E.D. Clark, farmer and stock raiser, section 18, post office Hopkins. Among the old settlers of this district, the subject of this sketch will bear more than a passing notice. He is a native of Sangamon County, Illinois, and was born February 9, 1828. He was there raised to manhood, and at the age of twenty-six years he emigrated to Iowa, settling in Marion County, where he resided about two years. From there he moved to Daviess County, Missouri, and after remaining there five years, located in Harrison County. Three years later he came to this county and settled where he now resides. He has 112 acres of good average land, eighty acres of which are under cultivation. Mr Clark was married in 1846 to Miss Abbie J. Austin. They have from this union seven children: William T., Mary E., Alexander, Sarah B., John P., James E., and Alice J.

Elon fought in the Union Army in the Civil War, Co. B. 11 th MO. He enlisted at Gallatin, MO. 16 Mar 1863 for a period of three years. He furnished his own horse and saddle. When he was mustered out in New Orleans on 27 July 1865, he was paid $100 and then charged $11 for one Colt pistol and one saber and belt, which he kept. He was paid "no bounty". There is no mention as to how he returned to Missouri. He was a member of the Upton Post No. 366, Dept. of Mo. G.A.R. [Genealogy of the WILSON-STANLEY, LAWRENCE-GOUCHER, WILSON-LAWRENCE, CLARK-AUSTIN, VINSON-SMITH, CLARK-VINSON, WILSON-CLARK AND WILSON-MERRITT FAMILIES. By Wayne W. Wilson, 1996, [page 79]

Again it becomes our sad duty to chronicle the decease of another respected citizen of this community. Abbey J. Austin was born in the state of New York, March 30, 1828. She died in Worth county, Mo., January 4, 1903. When a child three years of age she removed with her parents to Illinois where she lived until January 4, 1847 when she was united in marriage with Elon D. Clark. They then removed to Iowa. In the year 1857 Mr. and Mrs. Clark moved to Davis (Daviess) county, this state, and since that time they have resided in Davis (Daviess), Harrison, Nodaway and Worth counties and in the latter county have resided during the last seventeen years.
In the year 1860 she united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church of which she remained a faithful member until her death. Kind and helpful as a mother and neighbor she was beloved by all who knew her. By a strange coincidence the date of her death was her 56th wedding anniversary. Rev. M. H. Eells, pastor of the Sheridan M.E. church preached the funeral sermon in the Mission Ridge school house Monday from the text, Rev 14:13. The remains were interred in the Sheridan Cemetery.
Mrs. Clark was the mother of ten children, seven of whom still survive her: William T. Clark, Harrison County, Mo., Alexander Clark, Ringgold county, Iowa, Mary E. Siddens, Gentry county, Mo., Sarah B. Clark, who still remains with her father; John P. Clark, Harrison county, Mo.; Alice J. Little, Jasper county Mo.
