Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Cooter Baptist Church for Rufus E. Burns, 79, former resident of Cooter, who died of a heart ailment Saturday morning at Hornersville.
Mr. Burns was well known in this section. He had made his home at Cooter until two years ago when he went to Hornersville to reside with his son, Hubert Burns. He was at his son's home when he died.
The Rev. J.E. Ishbell, pastor of Hornersville Methodist Church, conducted the services at 2:30 o'clock. He was assisted by the Rev. B.W. Prince, pastor of Cooter Methodist Church. Burial was at Mount Zion Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Burns of Cooter; four sons, J.K. Burns of Benton, R.E. Burns of Cooter, Ben Burns of Steele and Hubert Burns of Hornersville; two daughters, Mrs. Delta Smith of Sandoval, Ill., and Mrs. Vannie Fuller of Eleven Points, and a nephew, Panic Burns of Creve Coeur, Ill., whom he reared.
German Undertaking Company of Steele was in charge.
