Rufus Edward "Buck" Burns, born April 29, 1892 at Clifton, Tenn., died May 13, 1973 at his home in Cooter at the age of 81.
The son of the late Rufus E. Burns, Sr. and Mattie Ray Burns, he was a retired farmer.
Mr. Burns was married to Alpha Asher at Cooter July 20, 1915.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Alpha Burns of Cooter; one son, Tom Burns of Cooter; one daughter, Mrs. Olivia Dennis of Cooter; one brother, Hubert Burns of Hornersville; one step-sister, Mrs. Edith Brigance of Cooter; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A son, Harold, preceded him in death April 28, 1944.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 15, 1973, 2:00 p.m. at the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter with the Rev. Joe Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele.
John W. German Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
